I am a student studying Mathematics at Stony Brook University.
I currently serve as an Stony Brook Computing Society (SBCS) Eboard representative, an assistant editor and publisher for The Statesman, and a board and research member in the Undergrad Economics Association (UEA). I am also a member of the Quant Club and a wrestler for Stony Brook Wrestling.
Research: I am currently harmonizing water-related data across Suffolk County, Long Island, with the UEA. There is currently no comprehensive dataset that links water usage (e.g., gallons consumed), water quality indicators, local geographic identifiers (ZIP code or town), and demographic and income variables.
Beyond this, my interests include the ethics and philosophy of LLMs: questions such as, “How should we characterize LLMs in terms of agency?” and more broadly, “How should we approach data, given that it is often biased in some form?”
I am also researching how to reduce the U.S. federal deficit with regard to Social Security and Medicare spending for the Fiscal Challenge.
Projects I am working on:
My previous project experience includes computational physics, data visualization, and game design.
If you have similar interests or any project ideas at ALL, please contact me at alex.luo@stonybrook.edu, as I would like to get as much experience as possible.
